Here is another chance to Live Life Greater! But it’s all too easy to become bogged down in the day to day. Let us help you refocus with a shot of daily inspiration! Be equipped to soar through this next week focusing on the important things in your life!
Easily Destroyed… Difficult to Build
The other day I was folding laundry… If you know me at all, you know that folding laundry is my least favorite of all the household chores and that is saying something. My list of not-favorite chores is loooong. My hubby was in my son’s room playing with the kids and I was (begrudgingly) folding my daughter’s clothes and putting them in her drawers. There was quite a pile to put away because I hadn’t put her laundry away in about a month… I had been using the “pull clean clothes out of the growing mound on her chair” system of laundry and was trying to reform my ways.
I finished up that task FINALLY and moved on to hanging the dresses in the closet. While my face was buried in ruffles, lace, and ribbons, Dawson, my 16-month-old, came in and made a bee line for his favorite pastime: opening drawers. In a matter of seconds, he had emptied the contents of her drawers onto the floor (he’s like a ninja or something!) and undone all the work I had accomplished!
Needless to say, we went back to my alternative system of laundry organization for another day… My mood was too volatile to continue in the task at hand and, in order to save my marriage and to be considered a good parent, I shut Selah’s door and went to play with the kids and hubby in the next room.
But isn’t that so representative of life? Destruction is so easy. Progress is so effortlessly reversed. Backsliding comes in a split second. I’ve been reflecting on that moment for the last few days (and yes, the clothes are still in a pile on the floor) and now I am calm enough to see the beautiful reminder of that moment.
Life is a beautiful balancing act that in a moment can be turned upside-down.
Trust that took a lifetime to earn can be destroyed in one moment of thoughtlessness. A marriage of depth and vulnerability can be reduced to shattered dreams and broken hearts with just a few moments of gratified temptations. Lifelong friendships can be wrecked with just a tactless word.
I don’t say all this to depress you. Just as a helpful reminder as you start your day. Remember your blessings and remember what you have to lose. Do not forget the work that you have done in building your life to be what you want it to be… what God wants it to be. So please take care not to let today be a day of destruction.
Destruction happens when you let your guard down
… like when I failed to keep an eye out for my stealthy little drawer wrecker. Remain ever vigilant. Guard your words and thoughts. Keep actively working at building your means of defense against evil and the means of destruction. Invest in your relationships, build trust in your marriage, and go deeper in your faith on a daily basis.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
1 Peter 5:8-9
What If It’s Too Late?
But what if, despite all your best efforts, destruction comes? What if you’re already walking through it? What if you already slipped up? Or what if you didn’t and someone else did?
Take heart, dear friend. Hope for restoration remains ever present. The road is long and hard but it can be rebuilt if you are intentional about it.
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…
You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied,
and praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has dealt wondrously with you.
And my people shall never again be put to shame.
Remember that the hope and grace you have been given is unconditional in Christ Jesus. Rest in hope. Rise up and walk actively in grace. There is work to do but, ultimately, I hope you let the Lord use these times to glorify the His name and give voice to His goodness in your life.
I hope this shot of daily inspiration brings you to a place of gratitude and hope. Walk in grace this week!
