Nice to Meet You!

We are Wendy and Melody… We’re real life ministry wives, quirky moms, amazing friends, and founders of! Busy as can be with six kids ages 1-12 between us, we’re always looking for ways to think outside the box as we Live Life Greater!

Meet Melody…

Me? Well, I am a daughter of King Jesus, wife to Zach, and mom to Dawson and Selah. I love Dr. Pepper and having dance parties in our living room. I am the Women’s Ministry Leader in my church by day and blogger extraordinaire by night. Zach and I graduated with our Masters degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary a few years back and work together at Woodridge Baptist Church. Come visit us if you’re in the area! My hubby is our Discipleship Pastor. I love love love getting to pour into the lives of women and their families and, as an added bonus, I get to work with my best friend every day. What could be better than that?

Family Life

Our two kids, Dawson and Selah, are 7 and 1/2 months apart in age! Yes, you read that correctly and yes, I do know that is not physically possible. Here’s how it works:

  • We heard about an adoption need and followed the Lord’s leading to respond.
  • It was a $30,000 leap of faith but when the Lord prompts, we follow. And He provides.
  • After a crazy miraculous 7-week adoption process, we held our beautiful newborn son in our arms!
  • In a wild twist, God also happened to answer our prayer to get pregnant in the same week that we affirmed His leading to adopt! What what????

We said yes and He said yes! God really does have a sense of humor. I figured something might be up when I kept throwing up while traveling to pick up our baby boy! What a double blessing! You can read the full story of our adoption journey here.

Blog Life

With this incredible story also came the chaos. For over a year, things were out of control. You can imagine, I’m sure, that having two kids in less than eight months sent me parasailing right over the edge of sanity! I loved the blessing but struggled to keep up with the pressure that came with it. The adoption stress, the pregnancy nausea, hormonal emotions, sleep deprivation, working two jobs, learning how to be a mom, all while maintaining the pace of life we had set before all this happened was too much for me to handle. I felt so inadequate and unable to handle what the Lord was asking of me… still do some days, to be quite honest.

One morning, I decided enough is enough. Time to toss the unrealistic expectations and take back my life. I want to kick “survival mode” to the curb and live every day embracing the potential that God has placed in me! I learn best when living life alongside others, learning through their strengths and weaknesses and sharing mine with them… And so was born!

Since then, God directed me into the wonderful world of Women’s Ministry and this blog is a natural extension of that calling and ministry. This is a great way for you to connect to my ministry and what God is doing in the lives of the women around me!

So will you join me in my journey and allow me to join you in yours? It would be my honor.

When we live to the glory of God,
we show His goodness living through us

Meet Wendy…

just_ourselves_headshots-19bI am a church going, volleyball playing, eating-out kind of girl.  I love summer heat, pretty things, and being with friends.  Most of all, my relationship with God is my first priority, which spills into all other aspects of my life.

I am a wife to an incredible man, Jeremy, who embodies what it means to be a Christian. He is my best friend. In addition to my hubby, I have four amazing daughters who are ages five to twelve. They jump right in to create fun and excitement. You can find them putting on dramatic productions or getting messy outside. Life is never dull…or quiet! I live a fast paced life and enjoy the controlled chaos that comes with it.

Ministry Life

While living in New Orleans, my husband taught philosophy and I worked full time as a neonatal ICU nurse.  I would race home to see my two-year-old daughter after my night shift, only to leave her a few hours later.  Talk about heart-wrenching!  This was not what I wanted for our family.

Jeremy had an opportunity to take on a second job as a bi-vocational pastor to our incredible Katrina-ravaged church. As a result, I became a ministry wife.

We decided to prioritize our life and become a 1.5 income family.  It was a leap of faith that has lead to that amazing peace God grants when you are right with Him.  It began my journey of being completely open to following God, even away from comforts and family.  We now serve the congregation at Woodridge Baptist Church and I can look back and see His hand in every step we’ve taken, and His blessings have blown me away.

Blog Life is an extension of my desire to show others how you can be yourself and live a God-honoring life.  This is especially true for those in ministry, or for families living outside of society’s norms and expectations.  Whether you’re quirky, serious, type A or B, there is a place for you to serve and lead.  Let our family walk along side yours.  Journey with us as we tackle ordinary life in an extraordinary way.
